Biography Sassafras is based in the northwest North Carolina town of Wilkesboro. Sassafras plays a range of musical styles, including bluegrass, ole-time, country, folk, and western swing. Members are Billy Gee, Wes Tuttle, and Randy Gambill. Billy Gee (Bass & vocals) - Billy has performed with Doc Watson, Wayne Henderson, Jim Lauderdale, Kruger Brothers and toured as bassist with Charlie Waller and the Country Gentlemen until Charlie's death in Aug. 2004. More currently he tours with a new band called The Circuit Riders featuring former Country Gentlemen members Greg Corbett and Darin Aldridge along with former IIIrd Tyme Out and J.D. Crowe alumnus Greg Luck and local resonator guitar wiz Jaret Carter. Wes Tuttle (Mandolin/Fiddle & Vocals) – Wes has performed with Doc Watson, Josh Graves, Kenny Baker, Benny Martin, Mac Wiseman, Jerry Douglas, Kruger Brothers, Steve Dilling, and Kim Gardner. Wes has recorded with Tony Rice, Ronnie Bowman, Russell Moore, Jim Buchanan and was a member of the 80’s band Surefire with Wes Golding. Randy Gambill (Guitar & Vocals) – Randy has performed with Doc Watson, Kruger Brothers and as a member of bluegrass band Southern Exposure Randy opened for Allison Krauss, Tim O'Brien, Mark O'Connor, Laurie Lewis, English Folk-diva June Tabor, ex-Fairport Conventioner- Jerry Donahue, and Tony Furtado.
